Have you ever noticed a bogus charge on your cellphone bill? It could be the result of wireless cramming – where consumers get charged on their phone bills for goods and services they never agreed to purchase. As Chairman of the Commerce Committee, I launched an investigation two years ago into wireless cramming. Today, I released a report which reveals that wireless cramming has likely cost consumers hundreds of millions of dollars while third-party wireless billing has generated billions in revenues for the wireless companies.
