Have you ever wondered why so many of us who call ourselves Christians fail? Gods promises are true, tried, and trustworthy. We have been promised strength for the day. We are told that we can ask Him for wisdom. We read that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. Why, then, do we fail so often? There may not be just one cause, but I believe that prayerlessness is the biggest reason most of us fail. When I say prayer, I mean staying in the presence of God with your undivided attention with a powerful and life-changing sense of His presence. We dont do that often enough. I have been in the presence of some great people in my life and I always went away impressed, and that impression and the thoughts of being with them stayed with me for many days. I spent about fifteen minutes one night with Dr. W. A. Criswell, who I think was one of the greatest preachers who ever lived. That meeting with the great man still lives in my heart and inspires me. I asked him that night to pray for me and he put his hand on my shoulder and prayed that God would bless this young man. If we truly spend more time in the living presence of God and pour out our hearts to Him, it will make all the difference in the way we live. The sense of His presence will be with us and I believe we will have a greater incentive to live for Him. Mistakes, then, will be less and less.
