Have you met Melissa & Eddy? Why not?! These two have only been at GCF for a few weeks and are already making amazing progress, in and out of the gym. We had to share how they have been taking in these last few weeks. How it can feel to be a beginner joining a CrossFit gym and what you might go through. Thank you SO much for sharing and we cant wait to see how you progress! For years Eddy and I heard several friends obsess with Crossfit, but we had also heard about all of these crazy injuries and thought who would ever want to do that, there is no need to push yourself to such excessive limits! Then this year we decided that we wanted to challenge ourselves and step out of our comfort zone, so we decided to sign up for foundation classes at GCF. We went in for our foundations with Nick and from the get-go he took the time to answer all of our questions and address all of our concerns. During foundations he definitely kicked our butts with our mini WODS but we were able to learn correct form and get a taste for what Crossfit is really all about. Then, when we graduated foundations and began taking regular Crossfit classes with others, is when we really began to understand what people mean when they say youve drank the Crossfit Kool Aid because we became hooked, but for reasons no one had every really explained to us. We cant speak for other Crossfit boxes, but GCF has offered us something that extends beyond your doors. Eventhough we are still fairly new to the GCF family, we can whole heartedly say that we never expected to feel so welcomed and embraced by all of the coaches and other crossfitters. The way Nick took the time to answer our questions, the way Lee & Wayne have always been so welcoming, and the way you and Jason have (constantly) taken the time to help us through our WODs, wether its by cheering us on, helping us get through our final reps, showing us how to modify the workouts so that we dont become discouraged, or patiently work with us to be able to learn the movements, has truly humbled us and left us in awe. When we made the decision to sign up for crossfit, sure we expected a challenging workout, but we have to admit that we were also scared of being pushed to far and feeling intimidated or judged, yet these fears could not have been farther from reality or farther from what GCF is all about. Instead of feeling pushed, we feel encouraged to try our hardest (but with caution and reminded to always be safe), instead of feeling intimidated weve felt welcomed and embraced by all GCF members, and we have NEVER felt judged for how we look, for having to modify a movement, or for not being able to do a movement. On the contrary, each day someone has taken the time to encourage, help, or compliment us. Which brings me to the most amazing and incredible aspect of GCF. Like I said before, yeah, we expected that GCF was going to kick our butts, and Im not going to lie, our limits have definitely been tested (and I mean this in the best possible way), but what you teach people in GCF is not just fitness. Weve realized that after joining GCF we feel better about ourselves, and not just because of the changes we are seeing in our bodies, but because what we are accomplishing in the gym is also driving us to accomplish more in our daily lives. Most days we go online the night before, see the next days WOD, and think, how the hell are we going to be able to do that? Or, there is no way well be able to finish that WOD! But, amazingly, we have been able to finish all of our WODs and each time we leave having accomplished something that we never thought possible, it drives us that much more to do the same in our careers and personal lives. Your positive attitudes, kind smiles, and encouraging words are what has made all the difference, and for that we would like to thank you! The GCF team has truly inspired us to try our best to become strong and healthy individuals in ALL aspects of our lives, and to never give up. So thanks, thanks for your patience, thanks for your encouragement, and thanks for showing us that anything is possible if you are willing to work hard for it, because after all, that truly is one of lifes most valuable lessons!
