Have you noticed heightened anxiety, listless thoughts, less sleep & potential restlessness? Its Autumn and in Ayurveda, an Eastern medicine, we would offer Vata (air) pacifying/reducing remedies. In other words, tools to help you quiet, release stress, focus more and sleep better. Here are 5 tips to reduce stress & anxiety this fall. 1. Get your feet on the earth at least once a day. Sink yourself right into the grass and simply stand, breath or walk. 2. Practice gentle yoga, or restorative yoga which is medicine! Yoga with many props, blankets and support to ease you into peace & relaxation. 3. Start eating warming foods. Hot tea, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, and cooked vegetables to help literally root us to Mother Earth and warm our bodies internally. Spices like turmeric and ginger also naturally warm our bodies :) 4. Turn off laptops, computers and cell phones. Instead close your eyes and meditate at least 10 mins per day! 5. Practice an Ayurveda remedy called Abhyanga. This is a beautiful practice where one puts oil all over the body. Literally. Coconut oil is a little cooler but you can use sesame to warm yourself if you get chilled to the bone, almond oil or jojoba oil. Especially over joints! You can make this part of your daily routine. The oil naturally quiets our energy, heals our drying skin from colder temperatures and gives us moments to physically touch our skin & body with time to slow down.
