Have you watched Cosmos: A spacetime Odyssey in National - TopicsExpress

Have you watched Cosmos: A spacetime Odyssey in National Geographic channel? I did the introductory segment, the premiere showing, this morning. I know all along that the series is all about the grandeur of the vast cosmos, but seeing it in a very accessible, visual medium is truly amazing. The introductory segment made a shrift of a medieval astronomer, Giordano Bruno, a Dominican friar no less, who defied religion, of which he was supposed to be an ardent proponent as a priest, to proclaim that Earth is not the center of universe as the Church had taught. Bruno was tried for heresy by the Roman Inquisition on charges including denial of the Trinity, denial of the divinity of Christ, denial of virginity of Mary, and denial of Transubstantiation, found guilty and was burned at the stake in 1600. This incident is a grim reminder of how men of great devotion to God would go great lengths to kill those who do not conform to the way they thought God should be adored and revered. This kind of religious men are still very much with us today. They are the kind of men of great faith who believe that it is they, and no one else, who know how and what every one else should do to please God and earn a place in heaven. Perhaps, this attitude in present in varying degrees in all of us. Take time out to ponder if there are times in our lives when we thought it was only us who know how to revere God and all else were demons in disguise.
