Having been face to face with a fairly large octopus 20 feet below - TopicsExpress

Having been face to face with a fairly large octopus 20 feet below the surface and feeling the vulnerability of potential sharks and such during a 3.5 mile ocean swim in hundreds of feet of water at San Clemente, Island, I would recommend having a spear gun or two accessible during triathalons and any significant water operations for safety defensive reason but unfortunately they most likely would not be allowed during civilian triathalon events. Having seen many kayakers on summer break from grad school traveling the ocean inlet channels of Canada and Alaska for a thousand miles, I would also recommend staying very close to shore and getting a much larger boat so it does not get tipped over by Orcas and anything relevant. When in a large raft for example, it is important to know how to work together quickly while re-flipping a raft right side up again if flipped over for any reason. Rafts are great because they have a large floorboard that does not tip as easy unless hit from behind. These might be very uncommon occurances and safety factors but they make great sense.
