Having had a number of horses with issues brought in over the years, it has become more and more obvious that there are a lot of people who coach, give advice, convince other people of certain ways of doing this or that with their horse... which can actually teach them to become very confused and even dangerous. When horses are passed from one practioner or trainer to another - it can be a recipe for disaster. The guidelines change, the territory, the rules.... no wonder horses become insecure, even to the extent of going into meltdown. I think it has to be made clear just what the people who are advising you really know.... what their background is... how their own horses react to them... how many happy and secure horses they turn out.... how successful their methods really are.... before you engage with them. There are so many areas of expertise out there and it can be a minefield. As a dressage expert, I would have no hesitation bringing in another expert in another field, if I felt a problem I was having to deal with was not within my own experience or capabilities. As you can see from FB everyone can be an expert - but how many really are?
