Hawaiian music is one of the most dynamic genres in the contemporary music scene, and three of it’s best and brightest are coming to Club Fox on Thursday, December 11th at 8pm. Since their first CD in 2009, Waipuna has become a fast favorite of Hawaiian music fans worldwide. Matt Sproat’s award-winning falsetto and guitar, Kale Hannah’s steady bass and vocals, and David Kamakahi’s masterful ‘ukulele have fans buzzing about this trio as “the newest big thing” in Hawaiian music. The Club Fox audience will also be treated to another of Hawaiian music’s brightest stars, Mark Yamanaka, who won an astounding 4 Nā Hōku Hanohano awards with his debut CD release in 2010. Mark continues to endear himself to listeners with his crystal falsetto and unmistakable “Hilo style” that brings listeners back to the classic years of Hawaiian music. Last but definitely not least, Patrick Landeza rounds out the bill with his award-winning slack key guitar. Though barely in his 40s, Patrick is a veteran of Hawaiian music, having learned slack key as a teen from the masters of the genre. He now perpetuates this musical style that began with the Hawaiian cowboys of old and has been embraced worldwide. All of these artists are winners of the prestigious Nā Hōku Hanohano award for Hawaiian music, and will fill Club Fox with some of the best Hawaiian music being played today. youtube/watch?v=O7I33Cq01Hs
