Hawkers Market after Open-Air-Theatre at Chowrasta!!!! Darjeeling: Despite the protest of common people in Darjeeling, once again the process of making “Hawkers Market” at Chowrasta started today in the initiative of District administration. It was seen the digging of the site in the morning between CR Das road and Mall Raod. The security of police force was also deployed near the site. During the day time the students of the local schools were there at Chowrasta to protest the construction. Darjeeling Municipality also strongly opposed the construction at Chowrasta for violating the Bengal Municipality Act, as the Building map is not sanctioned by the Darjeeling Municipality. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Punit Yadav has affirmed that the today’s exercise was not for the construction of Hawkers Market but it was for the test of soil. The process of making Hawkers market shall begin only after the test of soil, in case of construction, there will no cut of single tree nor that will affect the Chowrasta or CR Das road. Most likely there is less chance of making Hawkers Market at Chowrasta due to GJMM is protesting now, which will definitely apply its all the mechanism to stop it. However, people of Darjeeling witnessed so helplessly, while JB Thapa Park literally wiped out from the heart of Chowrasta to Open-Air-Theatre, in the protection of GLP (Gorkhaland personnel) despite there was huge protest and cry of people to save it.
