Clark father arraigned in beating of son, 4 Christopher Bruck, 27, was arraigned Monday afternoon on charges of aggravated battery and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injuries. Bruck has been held in the Clark County jail since he was arrested Saturday night. On Monday, Clark Circuit Judge Vicki Carmichael set his bond at $100,000, the amount requested by new County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull. Police believe the father didnt call for emergency medical services until more than an hour after the injury, noting the man said the boy began to act injured, tilt his head to the side, cry and then fall asleep on a bed inside his fathers home in the Underwood area north of Henryville. Bruck, shown in his jail mug shot shortly after his arrest wearing a T-shirt that read Vicious, said little to reporters as he entered the courtroom other than he is pleading not guilty to the charges. Mull said after the hearing that the investigation so far has shown that the child was simply trying to interact with this defendant while he was trying to watch television, that the defendant became irritated at that and this battery occurred. Indiana State Police Detective Rachel Abbott wrote in the probable-cause affidavit that led to Brucks arrest that he told her several stories of how his son was injured about 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Ultimately, Abbott said, Bruck admitted that he was watching TV when his son kept getting up into his face and pulling on his hand. The boys name was redacted from the affidavit and police havent released it otherwise due to the victims age. Bruck said he lost control and used the palm of his left hand and struck (his son) in the forehead causing (the boy) to fall backwards on the carpeted concrete floor, Abbott wrote. Bruck called Scott County EMS about 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the affidavit. Emergency workers who responded to the house in the 22000 block of Campbell St., initially transported the child to the Scott County. Dr. Megan Lawiewics treated the boy at the hospital, suspected the injuries were from child abuse and notified state police. He was then taken to Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville, where Detectives Abbott and David Mitchell, of the Sellersburg post, interviewed his father. Dr. William Gump performed surgery on the boy, who suffered an intracranial subdural hematoma, or bleeding inside the skull. Gump gave the boy a 30 percent chance of survival, telling police that the injuries were consistent with those a victim could sustain in a high-speed car crash. The boy had additional bruises throughout his body, including on both ankles, the affidavit states. Sgt. Jerry Goodin, a state police spokesman, said Monday he did not have an updated condition for Brucks son. Mull called it a very sad situation, noting he will continue to check on the victims condition to determine whether charges need to be changed. A Facebook page has been set up to encourage continued support for the boy. Theres also a crowdfunding page on the site GoFundMe thats seeking donations to help his family pay for medical bills. courier-journal/story/news/local/indiana/2015/01/05/clark-father-arraigned-beating-case/21285593/
