He Waits by Lynn Rosen The heat is intense , unbearable to me Yet he is on his park bench sleeping quietly Looking for a miracle or a dream A way to leave the bench and create a new scheme He Waits As the winter left with snow covering the bench His clothes still not washed Oh what a stench The summer draws in with heat suffocation Will he survive in this uncaring nation? He Waits So much has happened, has happened that is true People out of work I care Do you? Looking for a dime, a nickel or anything Yet the man on the bench has no song to sing He Waits What will be his fate the death or the police? All he desires is a day of peace Yet you walk on by and never look his way How cant you care that he might decay Close your eyes and see what you would do If you took a moment to step in his shoes Is that the life you would choose? Help that man please, please do Someday that man on the bench might be you He Waits
