“He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel and girded himself. After that, he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel…” (John 13 vs 4-5). In the scripture above, Jesus took off His garments, girded himself with a towel, and began to wash the feet of His disciples. He was their Master, but He decided to serve them. He was their superior, but He served them. Jesus’ action in our Focal Scripture exemplifies the true essence of God’s mercies. The Word MERCY from the original Hebrew translation of the Bible is known as CHANAN. CHANAN simply means to bend or stoop in kindness to an inferior. Put differently, Mercy is when God is superior to us, yet He stoops low to serve us. Mercy is when God can do without us, yet He carries us as if we are indispensable to Him. Wait a minute! When God serves a man, what can ever go wrong? Child of God, God will work for you. God will bring opportunities to your doorstep. God will cause the resources of heaven to be deployed in your favour. God will silence every opposition to your destiny. God will become your doctor and heal you when the doctors in the world give up on you. He will be your defender when you can’t defend yourself. God will speak to men on your behalf, and He will turn the heart of Kings in your favour. He will send his angels to run errands on your behalf. God will take responsibility to make things happen in your life! CHANAN is your right in Christ. David understood it perfectly when he said, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies”. Visualise God setting the table for David, laying the plates, spoons in order and ultimately serving the meals. Wow! It doesn’t diminish who God is. Its Who He is. Pray with me, “Lord, I receive your CHANAN Mercy, do for me what I can’t do for myself in Jesus name”. Have an Awesome Thursday!
