He said: I am a practicing Muslim but I find it really difficult to be the same when I am alone. This is a common problem that a lot of Muslims suffer from. It was said: don’t be a saint in front of others and a devil in privacy. Ibn Al Qayyem said: the consensus of those who know Allah is that the sins committed in privacy are the main cause of turning back on one’s heals and that worshiping Allah in privacy is the main cause of being steadfast. Most of us curse Satan in public while taking him best friend when alone. This is a dangerous thing. The Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said: “I certainly know people of my ummah who will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds like the mountains of Tihaamah, but Allah will make them like scattered dust.” Thawbaan, the narrator of the hadeeth said: O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us and tell us more, so that we will not become of them unknowingly. He said: “They are your brothers and from your race, worshipping at night as you do, but they will be people who, when they are alone, transgress the sacred limits of Allah.” Don’t be fooled by what others say about you.
