He walked into his flat, tired after a long week of work, meetings and presentations. His phone kept buzzing with people making hectic last moment plans to milk every moment of enjoyment that they could. Fourteen unread conversations on WhatsApp, four WhatsApp groups buzzing with messages, Gtalk ringing and being ignored like a slice of leftover pizza, and endless conversations on Messenger. Disgusted with the shallowness of those conversations, he turned his mobile off. He switched on the TV and raised the volume so that the silence of his empty flat would not register, and opened his laptopp, hoping to tire himself out working on his report due next month. That had become the only way he could fall asleep - with eyes burning from the glow of his laptop and the background rumble of earnest-sounding news anchors offering instant analysis seeping into his disturbed dreams. Another introspective weekend opened its jaws wide before him as his tired body twitched off to sleep.
