He was a pillar we hear the term often, but what does it really - TopicsExpress

He was a pillar we hear the term often, but what does it really mean? To be a pillar, in the church, in the community. Mostly in historical construction the pillars were the strongest part of the structure on top of the foundation. Next to the foundations role in the structural integrity of the building the pillar had the most important job, the pillar carries the weight of the building on its shoulders so to speak. The pillars held up the castles and cathedrals if one should crumble and fall under the pressure the entire structural integrity would be compromised. In order to be a pillar in the church or the community or even in a family a person must understand and be comfortable with such a monumental responsibility. A pillar gets no breaks or vacations from carrying the weight, its a 24/7 365 job. Its a position that I fear my generation has lost respect for and even more concerning, I fear that fewer are eager to assume the role when necessary. On Thursday evening not only Calvary gospel church, but This community and our family lost a true pillar. He played that role in every sense of the word, he did so, humbly. Irving James Mandley was and will always be one of the greatest men I could ever have the privilege of knowing, he was a great example, a passionate family man, a loving Friend, and a Consistent and disciplined man of god. Over the years I have observed his great character. I have watched him impart wisdom when it was. Most needed, laugh through sadness, smile through adversity, display great courage through physical complications beyond his control, even until his passing away he remained Humble and always serving. I am sad today because the pen from wich your lifes story was written has fallen from your hand, however I am exceedingly glad that you are now standing before your creator hearing the words we all desire to hear most. Well done good and faithful servant. I love you grandpa. May your body rest peacefully may your soul rejoice triumphantly till we meet again
