Headline: San Juan Bautista Leads America Back Into Space After a week of private space disasters, including the tragic loss of life, a successful near (very) space launch was successfully completed in San Juan Bautista, CA. A single stage booster design, equipped with a recovery parachute, was fired not once but twice on the afternoon of November 2, 2014. The booster, code named Bad Grandpa One, was test fired by range officer Grayson Andrews under the supervision of assembly engineer Larry Gerbrandt. The first two attempts to launch the Estes-built rocket resulted in aborts, the first due to a loose igniter clamp and the second due to the launch teams unfamiliarity with proper launch safety protocols. However the next two attempts resulted in successful launches and capsule separation, achieving heights of over 400 feet. The success was celebrated with chocolate milk provided by Lauren G. Andrews.
