Headlines proclaim an American won the Boston Marathon. Articles are chiming the same tune that the last time was in 1983 and it has been a Kenyan since 1991. Some articles waited til the last paragraph or two, or, not at all, to mention that marathon winner Meb Keflezighi came to the US from Eritrea when he was 12. For the globally challenged, Eritrea is a small, war-torn, poverty-stricken, Red Sea pirate-infested east African country 1050 miles north of Kenya. Not to bust anyones bubble, (Well, maybe just a little.), but Meb is barely an American. Im glad he escaped the horrors of his country and loves his new home. But, come on, let us be realistic. And, for all you race-baiters, it has nothing to do with his skin color. It is more the way the media is omitting certain facts. What also troubles me are the photos of him wrapped in an actual American flag in a show of patriotism, when, in reality, it is disrespectful. For those who cant help but chastise me, make yourselves happy.
