Heads up: Bills to ban certain types of fishing coming up in the legislature. There are a great number of misconceptions about the aquarium fishing trade. To ban this type of fishing, while claiming it does great harm to our reef, is like saying fishing for oama and other types of bait is equally or more destructive than collecting aquarium fish. The same argument could be used against all fishing. We have to support our fellow fishermen, whether the fish are kept as pets or eaten as food. - SB 322 - Criminalizes the sale of aquatic life for aquarium use: capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=322 - HB 606 - Complete ban on the taking of aquarium fish statewide: capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=HB&billnumber=606 One bill would impose unreasonable standards for shipping fish, which would effectively kill the industry. - SB 670 - Requires exporters to feed fish within 8 hours of transport: capitol.hawaii.gov/measure_indiv.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=670
