Heads up on Carolyn -- After a life that Carolyn considers wonderful, fun, educational, enlightening, and a few other adjectives, her time is running out, and she knows it. She doesn’t want to go, but she accepts the inevitable. That’s the kind of woman she has been, and is. Despite her condition, she maintains her remarkable sense of humor, cheering up family and friends. Of course, only God knows when he will take her, and take her, He will, because of her continuous commitment to Him. Meanwhile, day by day, Carolyn’s cancer continues to wreak havoc on her body, tampering with her digesting system, causing her to tire easily, and with her brain, causing her to lose contact with conversation. But it doesn’t stop her from talking, and reminiscing. She is a pure wonder. Through all that, she has no pain and no discomfort; God’s blessing. As her condition weakens, it forces her to spend more and more time napping in bed or on the sofa in the den. Her nurse said that naps were all right, that we could let her sleep 30-40 minutes and wake her, and she would be with us again. But, this is the situation: Right now, Carolyn is on the way out. She is dying, and she knows it, and she accepts it. My belief is that she will go to sleep -- for a nap or for a night -- and not wake up. She will simply slip away, very gently; the easiest way I know. It’s what she deserves. For me? . . . I am happy for her. I love her; I’ll miss her; that’s a given, but she has given me a load of memories.
