Health Assessment/ Zensey Issue Members, As you may be aware - TopicsExpress

Health Assessment/ Zensey Issue Members, As you may be aware by now, the City of Houston and CIGNA have decided to use a third party vendor “Zensey” to conduct this year’s health assessment. For those of you who do not know what Zensey is, they are a social media healthcare sharing website. The social media site is designed to create a forum where you can “share” your medical information with anyone on the site, all under the guise of improving your health. The problem is that the City is compelling you to join this social media website “Zensey” under the financial threat of paying a penalty for not completing your health assessment. In addition to being compelled to join the site, you are also forced to waive your HIPAA rights in order for Zensey to communicate with CIGNA about your healthcare. The HPOU has seen the success of the health assessments, we have had officer’s lives saved because of them. We are not opposed to the health assessments, and did not oppose sending this information to the City of Houston (as we did in years past). What we are opposed to is being compelled under financial penalty to join a social media site. It is absurd to force us to put our information out for the world to see, equally absurd is Zensey asking our members to waive their HIPAA rights. We wanted to send this email out to ensure you that we are doing everything in our power to prevent this from continuing. We have contacted city legal and are awaiting a response on the legality of this practice. We will provide further updates on this on going issue.
