Health Care rant! So we were going to forgo the Affordable Care - TopicsExpress

Health Care rant! So we were going to forgo the Affordable Care Act because we think the plans are bad, the deductibles are outrageous and the hoops are many! My family was just going to take the fine. That was until Friday when my boyfriend found out he would either have to go down to part time 3 days a week or stay full time and get health insurance. Because of the Affordable Care Act if your employer is exempt from providing it to you but carries it for their self and or their family they will LOSE their coverage if they CONTINUE to employe you at full time without you having coverage... He has until Monday to get coverage our he will be out of a job or cut back to part time which will not cover our household bills. That being said we thought we could get private insurance, sure it maybe more expensive but at least the quality would be good right? WRONG our household income total means we automatically qualify for a Healthcare subsidy which means we are NO longer able to participate in private coverage! SAY WHAT.... So basically since our income is below the limits the President and Senate has set we have NO CHOICE but to participate in the new healthcare mandate! I spent time talking to an outside healthcare broker for a private insurance company and he told me that the law states if my income qualifies me for a healthcare tax credit I have to sign up at healthcare.gov and that me and my family no longer qualify for private insurance as stated in the laws that make up the Affordable Care Act! Now on top of this my son is under 18 which means he does not qualify for coverage under the affordable Care Act (No Child does) and that he is now required to participate in a state run health insurance Medicaid and/or CHIP. My son currently has Medicaid which he was accepted based on our income from last year but my boyfriends employer put him on salary this year which increased his income which now puts our son over the acceptable income limit and he will lose his coverage and have to apply for the CHIP program which is a paid for program based on the total gross household income and it is billed at 5% of our total income which puts our sons individual coverage at over 200.00 a month for him alone! He has a Thyroid issue that requires daily medication and quarterly blood tests and screenings to a specialist each year! We would have to make over 64,000 a year before we could get our son coverage through the Affordable Care Act. If we made that much the 3 of us would have coverage for 357.00 per month but since we make less than that 2 of us will be covered for 238.00 and 1 of us will be covered for 210.00 which is only 91.00 more each month but mind you this is for the crappiest policy they have to offer because we can not afford any other option. This policy has an 11,500 family deductible and a 12,700 dollar out of pocket expense? isnt a deductible and out of pocket the same thing? If so then why are the numbers different? Forcing me and my family to get this mediocre healthcare coverage makes me feel like the government is holding a GUN to my head, purposely putting us between a rock and a hard place until we have no other option but to FALL in line and do what THEY say! The last time I cracked open a history book I thought it said the United States of America was a FREE country based on freedom and the right to choose and live our lives as a Free Nation, when did we become a dictatorship? RANT OVER If you have had a good experience with the Affordable care act I am happy for you but as for me and my family we have been made to feel like sheep.
