Health and Safety Officer Remuneration: R20000 - R25000 per month Cost to company Benefits: Includes Med Aid, Provident Fund Location: Cape Town, CBD Education level: Diploma Job level: Mid/Senior Own transport required: Yes Travel requirement: Occasional Type: Permanent Reference: #VM Job description Main purpose of the role: To assist the safety, health and environmental manager to effectively ensure compliance in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all health and safety system requirements and legislation to ensure that the company meets local, statutory and corporate requirements. Support all safety initiatives, programs and systems knowledge and provide information for activities relating to property wide safety objectives and goals, with special focus on event safety, F&B back of house tenant premises hygiene inspections and evacuation drills. Essential requirements: Matric Tertiary level qualification in Health and Safety or related field Minimum two to three years technical work experience essential H&S Legal training Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa Food safety training in HACCP or related principles required MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Previous experience in a retail/commercial and built environment Previous experience in a food safety environment would be beneficial Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; relevant legislation and applicable by-laws Accuracy and attention to detail Decision making and problem solving ability Excellent organisational skills particularly in terms of planning and report writing Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to liaise on all levels Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines Report writing and strong administration skills are essential General administration duties Drivers Licence and own reliable vehicle Must be a South African national Preference will be given to EE candidates Duties: Implementation of food and safety principles ISO 22 000 Must be able to plan, conducts and perform quality assurance audits Developing and maintaining Occupational Health and Safety checklists and relevant registers Quarterly canopy extraction audits of all food and beverage tenants Tenant premises inspections retail and commercial Back of house – F&B premises inspections Pest control compliance Maintenance of filing systems Incident investigation Support incident recording and reporting Ensuring contractor safety compliance with reference to all tenant refurbishments and major construction projects. Monitor contractor compliance with all relevant legislation Issuing and record keeping of all relevant safety documentation pertaining to tenant installation and all other contract related work on site Ensuring optimal functioning of the on-site medical clinic facility and the compilation of medical stats reflecting the optimal functioning Conducting regular evacuation drills of all commercial tenants and buildings on a bi-annual basis and coordinating with local emergency response teams Assisting with the compilation of annual SHE budget Responsible for monthly safety meetings Ensuring that current copies of all relevant legislation is kept available for reference at all times and stay abreast of all amendments/changes to relevant legislation Responsible for the company’s WCA program and working closely with the Department of Labour in this regard Maintain emergency response plans, and arrange relevant training in consultation with SHE manager Administration of evacuation flow processes on a bi-annual basis Ensuring fire equipment compliance Liaising with internal departments on tenants fire compliance Mange emergency response and all relevant H&S training Attending small/medium event related meetings Implement all events related procedures Assist with all relevant departments with implementation of relevant procedures Ensuring that all safety requirements has been met and correct documentation submitted to landlord completed by clients Ensuring that all event’s safety procedures and policies are adhered to All CVs will be deleted.
