Healthcare Newsletter – July 2013 Issue This months, the State Council issued the “Plan of Main Works on Deepening Health System Reform in 2013” (《深化医药卫生体制改革2013年主要工作安排》), which sets the direction for healthcare reform in the second half of 2013. Also, it released the “Decisions on the Cancellation and Devolution of 50 Administrative Approval Procedures” (《关于取消和下放50项行政审批项目的决定》). 11 cancellations and devolutions are related to the field of medicine and health administration. In addition, in early July the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) launched a cost investigation of selected pharmaceutical companies. Further highlights for the month include: GlaxoSmithKline’s challenges aroused widespread public concern and debate; several ministries introduced a series of initiatives to reduce drug prices; a number of provinces launched healthcare insurance plans for serious diseases; Shenzhen reported its provisions for qualified physicians to practice in multiple institutions; and Shanghai announced high-end medical services to be the priority of the current round of hospital reform.
