Healthy Tips: Meat and poultry are favorite sources of protein; however, they can be high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Here are some suggestions on how to make these foods healthier: *Choose lean cuts of poultry and meat; remove the skin from chicken or turkey. *Choose lean cuts of beef – round, chuck, sirloin or tenderloin. *Choose lean cuts of pork – tenderloin or loin chops. *Choose meat with the least amount of visible fat – labeled “Choice” or “Select”—instead of “Prime” (which has more fat). *Trim visible fat from chicken, beef, and pork. *Choose lean ground meat—90% or higher. *Try low-fat ground turkey or chicken. *Use low-fat cooking methods—bake, broil, grill, roast, sauté, or stir-fry. *When baking meat, place meat on a rack so the fat drips away.
