Hear My Cries A tangerine sunset kisses my cheeks Blue green waves wash upon my feet Forlorn rocks fly from my dirty hands As I sit weeping upon these sands ~ On picture day, bruises surround my eye Just another mark on a life gone awry Smile and wipe that smudge off your lip I can’t, that’s a bloody cut not a blip ~ At the house, just stay out of his way Take your brother to the back and play Innocent little angels, their lives dark blurs Hiding from feeling a drunk’s fists and slurs ~ A mom that thinks she needs a man to be whole She long ago lost the remnants of her soul Desperately clinging to him no matter the cost To needy to ever consider what could be lost ~ My pas tis repeated in my present At times I am here but I am absent Learning to hide from the pain Finding a place to keep me humane ~ I admit there’s a rage burning inside A whirling confusion that I cannot hide But I promised myself I will not be her I would rather die a homeless beggar ~ Someday from this bitter desolation I will rise Will you be the one that hears my desperate cries? © David Brian Hall 12/7/2014 Please take the time to watch this video that inspired this write, thank you.
