Hearing good reports of a guest lecture at Kingston University last night by Professor Brid Featherstone, Professor of Social Work at The Open University. Brid is contributing to the growing mass of research showing that social and health problems are more common in unequal societies - ideas also expressed by Kate Pickett and Richard Wilkinson in their recently republished book The Spirit Level and Thomas Pikettys Capital in the 21st Century - which incidentally was mentioned during Russell Brands interview on Newsnight yesterday evening. Brid took the city of Glasgow as an example, where there is a much higher concentration of children needing support from social services in the poorer Easterhouse suburb. Tomorrow I am out campaigning for the NHS because a well-funded health service is vital to combating health inequality. Please come and join us. Brid Featherstones book: Re-imagining child protection: towards humane social work (Policy Press, 2014) by Brid Featherstone, Sue White and Kate Morris. https://twitter/Brigid39/status/525520885739159552?s=09
