Heartfelt thanks to the bands and all who gathered with The Mob at last night’s Winter Solstice Warm-up gig in Glastonbury; To Anthrax, who due to a last-minute change of running order opened proceedings with a set drawn largely from their brilliant “All For The Cause” album plus a few older and newer and with a power that pushed the room’s modest decibel count beyond limits. With sincere apology to any who were disappointed by the switched running order. A change to provide a better sequence of turnaround between left and right-handers, so as not to further-pressure a soon-come curfew To Mark Astronaut who with Dom on guitar delivered a sublime performance. Mark’s knowing words set perfect in the Assembly Room’s Victorian-gothic, new-age ambience and completed by an impromptu collaboration with Steve Lake and Paul Gilbert of Zounds. And so to Zounds, the regular trio with Paul O’Donnell on bass; for adding their finest dirty-squatter-blues soundtrack to the all-night projections of the rise and fall of Stonehenge Festival. To “Wally” Dean Phillips; Current custodian of Wally Hope’s ashes and flag-waver and petitioner for the ongoing campaign for Open Access to Stonehenge. For his fascinating and exhaustive visual archive of the free festivals and for being a constant thorn in the side of those who would smother the free spirit. To Jan and the Assembly Rooms staff for their friendly welcome and to Martin for his expert knob-twiddling in coaxing the best from a limited sound rig Thanks of course to The Mob for their songs of love, hope and despair and to the ubiquitous Steve Lake in joining for a repeat of the Dancing / No Doves Fly Here segue – a poignant 3-chord coincidence. And thanks mostly to everyone who came from near and far to support us and join us in song for the winter sun. There’s no greater reward than when we meet In love, peace and freedom xx All The Madmen
