Included was an offer to give her a more detailed briefing. Incorporation Max gave a short explanation of incorporation. All agreed that incorporation was a good way to go. Post meeting Max has suggested Hunter Region Communities Partnering Bali Schools as our initial name, once you googled, you find your self with a mixture of links. Googling this name worked well. There has been some discussion re name to be used post meeting. Suggestion is we discuss in more detail at August meeting. If you have suggestions please email DJ and he will keep a list of suggestions. As part of the Incorporation process we decided to run an election for office bearers. The following were elected.. President Sue Bryant Vice President Jane Dynan Secretary David Jack Treasurer Bobbie Barker Action: Max to continue working on incorporation. At next meeting Max will present a DRAFT constitution for our comments. One suggestion is that we have a limit to how long a person can serve in an executive position. Bank Account Action: This will occur once we have had first incorporation meeting and executive positions have been established. Skype so that Ketut can participate at next meeting. No need for this meeting as Ketut is in attendance but will need to still look into possibility for next meeting. Possible student designed logo Coreena reports that they will begin working on this term. We do however need to get an agreed upon title. – see Incorporation above. Tracie requested that Alfira O’Sullivan be placed on our mailing list. She is an Indonesian dancer and resides in Sydney. She and her partner travel the east coast teaching and performing Indonesian dance at schools. Translation for correspondence with Bali. Renee Bryant (Sue & Sandi’s daughter. Renee has offered to do translation for us. When you are emailing Bali and you are unsure of the level of English you can email your information to Renee and she will translate it so that it can be sent on to Bali. The reverse will also be the case when receiving information or correspondence from Bali. This will be a bit complicated at first but it is a wonderful gesture and very much appreciated. Recently she was forwarded a request from Hamilton PS Festival Indonesia – Sydney 2013 Max sent out information about this after last meeting. Graham Eather Linda and Trace requested that Graham Eather be included on our mailing list. Graham is principal of Hunter River High School and is very keen to support project. This has been done. Correspondence 1) A briefing paper has been sent to Sonia Hornery (State MP for Shortland) Reports Treasurer’s Report Recent $ raised to support program $600 from Hamilton PS for SDN 8 Kubutambahan – money currently held in DJ’s bank account. $50 from a community member – money currently held by DJ. $1100 from Lambton PS –SDN 5 Tamblang – money held in school account. University Practicum’s David David has been having difficulty contacting Wayan Muderawan at Ganesha University of Education. Ketut will make direct contact with him on his return to Bali so that practicum can be confirmed by end of August. David will be hosting a briefing session on Wedneasday 24th at Lambton PS. Sue and Jane will attend and possibly Ketut. Technology links Gabby IT Connections with Balinese Students Early February 2013- Confirmed with IT the necessary equipment for Bali to video conference with us 12th February 2013 – Contacted Nyoman Darta (Principal of Sampoerna Institute School)-he gave me the email address of a staff member -Krisnapati who he thought would be a more suitable contact 18th February 2013 – Emailed Krisnapati [No reply to date] 25th February 2013 – Contacted Nyoman Riasa(Teacher Training Director Denpasar). Gave him information on the facilities required for video conferencing. 25th February 2013 – Received response from Nyoman Riasa, enthusiastic to get something going. Would check on necessary equipment. However, unable to facilitate video conferencing because of lack of equipment in Balinese schools 5th March 2013 – Contacted Nyoman Tryasa (Head of P&C SDN5Tamblang School) about students connecting via emailing or video conferencing – [No response to date] 6th March 2013 – Contacted Alexandra Ivanova from IT about alternate programs to video conferencing. She suggested Adobe Connect which is supported by department April 2013 – Back and forwards with emails with Nyoman Riasa to try and connect using Adobe Connect 29th May 2013 – Set up adobe Connect meeting room after doing departmental online course 6th May 2013 - Linked up with Nyoman Riasa using Adobe Connect -as a trial run. He is currently trying to organise with a primary school in Denpasar for them to come to his building and connect with a Stage 2 class at Lambton Public School. Still trying to negotiate a time suitable for both school 20th May – Emailed SDN5 Tamblang school directly, cc’d Sandhi and Sue – about a possible link using Adobe Connect 23rd May – Contacted by Nyoman Riasa –possible connection with Petra and small group of students for 5th or 6th June with a Stage 2 class at LPS 22nd July - Sandi will contact me after he returns to Bali about setting up a technological link with another school near him- Sekolah Dasar, No 2, Bontihing. Apparently, they have sufficient technological equipment now for a student link and their teachers also have good English for communication. I am waiting to hear from Ketut (he needs to clarify with them the possibilities) before I proceed. Gabby TAFE links DJ Pak Nyoman Riasa has emailed Toni Foot. We are awaiting an update on this correspondence. Ketut to follow up when he returns to Bali in August. Funding applications We have none at this time. Visit by Indonesian teachers to local Hunter schools Linda Ann reported that Lambton PS are currently corresponding with Pak Nyoman Riasa re the possibilities of two Indonesian teachers to visit. Naomi has also indicated that Hamilton PS school may also be interested. Ann / Jane are in contact with Nyoman Riasa and will report back at 26th August meeting. School links Lambton PS / SDN 5 Tamblang Lambton PS raised over $1100 for the school. Ketut will liaise with principal of Tambang school and Ann/Jane, re priorities for money. Money will be kept at Lambton chool until we identify best means of transferring to school. Merewether HS / SMA Negeri N Bali Mandara - Sampoerna Academy Coreena will be contacting school prior to our next meeting to begin partnership. Hamilton PS / SDN 8 Kubutambahan (close to Sue & Sandi’s property) Principal – Pak Komang Gede Subawa Action: Naomi to discuss with Teeny (Principal) and then contact Sue for additional information. Update: Naomi has emailed Renee for translation correspondence with school. Hunter River High School / SMP Negeri 1 – Singaraja SMP Negeri 1 - Singaraja Principal – Pak Ketut Bawa Head of English – Pak Andang (excellent spoken English) Update: Linda was unable to visit school during recent school holidays due to family illness. Ketut will chase up on his return to Bali. Cultural visits Jane / Ann None planned at this stage. They are keen to undertake and support environmentally sound projects in Bali – see attached information. Jo has asked to be placed on mailing list. 4) Indonesian national Day celebration Max Max announced that the Indonesian Australian Community Inc in Newcastle is organising a function to celebrate the Indonesian Independence Day. It will take place on Saturday night 24 August at the Wallsend Pioneers Memorial Hall. All welcome. DJ enjoyed a nice meal and good company. DJ gave a short presentation after dinner. It was raised at the meeting that the club had already done some projects in Bali – specifically supplying a water tank to one of the villages. They may be interested in supporting more. Invitation to attend the meeting cam via Bobbie Barker who is a member of Lions Adamstown.
