Heat of the Moment Coastal Wattle (Acacia longifolia) twigs, charcoal, found pottery, glass & rusted lid, linen thread and bookbinder’s gum on canvas Sold to newlyweds who enjoyed a wintery honeymoon at Southern Ocean Lodge, Kangaroo Island, Australia, warmed by their suspended fireplace - the Gyrofocus, created by Dominique Imbert in 1968 and voted the Worlds Most Beautiful Object in the 2009 Pulchra Design Awards, Italy. “I see these twigs as heat haze: over a wood stove or lamp in a domestic kitchen; over a yard baking in summer sun; or a landscape blackened by bushfire. I’m drawn to fragments I find in the landscape, they invite questions (Where was it made? Was it a special gift? How did it break? Who last held it?) but rarely give answers.”
