Heathers Rose ICU update for Thursday, Nov 20th: Each morning, - TopicsExpress

Heathers Rose ICU update for Thursday, Nov 20th: Each morning, Dr. Schwartz and crew do rounds at 9am. That is when the team of doctors and nurses make a plan for the day, using info from the previous day and any new lab or diagnostic reports. Todays plan is to have a new chemo administered this afternoon, in an attempt to shrink the lung tumors that are contributing to Heathers extreme shortness of breath and resulting low blood oxygen levels. This chemo wont have an instant effect, but there is optimism about its potential to slow the tumor growth. The docs are also bombarding Heather with multiple broad spectrum antibiotics and waiting on more cultures to return from the lab. This will help pinpoint which microbe (if any) could be causing trouble in the lungs, and thus an adjustment to the antibiotics can be made. There have also been chest x-rays, ultrasounds, and an echocardiogram in the last 24 hours helping to guide the care team and their plan. Heathers spirits are high, though she tires easily. She is upset about how McKee handled her care and feeling much better about the treatment plan at Rose. Heathers room has had no fewer than 5 friends or family during visiting hours, sometimes up to 15 people. Feel free to visit, but be prepared to be kicked out if she tires or the ICU patience wears thin with this TRIBE. Heather is supported and loved, from near and far and it is abundantly evident. Oh, I almost forgot, her daughters have a whole mama-daughter pedicure plan set out for today, as well
