Heaven Holds My Lord So many of the Lord’s people have sung the melodious song, “Heaven Holds All To Me” in worship and privately to our Great Heavenly Father! It is such a great song, filled with content which saturates our hearts with joy and comfort, which truly reveals what we have to look forward to. One of the most longed for blessings which heaven holds for the people of God is in the person of Jesus! He’s sitting at the right hand of the throne of God (Heb. 12:2). What assurance we can harbor in our hearts knowing if we were to stay faithful to the Lord, one day we will occupy the same place (heaven) where Jesus is (John 14:6). God’s heritage should cherish and relish the opportunity to experience the glory of God, thus holding heaven in our hearts today. Heaven holding our Lord is vital, because it is through Him we have intercessional power in the very presence of the Lord (1 Tim. 2:4). We have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens and now makes mediation for us; therefore, we can come boldly to the throne of grace to find help in the time of need (Heb. 4:14-16). Unlike those of the Old Covenant who had earthly High Priests (through whom the Jews offered sacrifices), we live under a better covenant with better promises offering spiritual sacrifices through the prince of peace (Heb. 5:1ff; 1 Pet. 2:5-9). What awesome blessings we enjoy knowing the trail-blazer Himself showed us how to live and be prayerful as He was! When He taught His disciples how to pray and approach the Lord, He stated, “Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name….” Notice the reverential awe shown, and when we approach God it must be in the same manner (Matt. 6:9ff). Our Lord in Heaven with the Father is equally important, due to the fact that He is talking to God on our behalf. Heaven surely holds our Lord! Heaven holding our Lord is central. We have a portrait of perfection through the obedient example of Christ in His exaltation. Jesus always did those thing which please the Father, which was seen in His humble submission to the death on the cross and decree of God (John 8:29; Phil. 2:6-11). Our Savior showed us how to go back home to the Lord, humility, and servant-hood leading to adulation (1 Pet. 2:21). If you want to be great, learn how to serve and look for opportunities to do well (Matt. 20:16)! “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (Gal. 6:10). Because God is trustworthy and noble, we are assured of our eternal inheritance and future with Him when we do His will. Let’s expound on looking for opportunities: teaching the lost, feeding the homeless, extending hospitality to the brethren, and offering words of exhortation. These are characteristics of a child of God humbling himself under His mighty hand that God may exalt him (Matt. 25:1ff; 1 Pet. 5:5ff). We must strive to be presented mature in Christ. This task isn’t easy but is well worth the challenges and obstacles that may befall us from time to time (Col. 1:28). We are also aware that perfection (maturity) is accomplished by applying God’s word to our lives. The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Rom. 8:18). Heaven holds that beautiful picture of perfection which is found in Christ Jesus our pattern. Heaven holding our Lord is perpetual and therefore timeless! “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). It was Jesus who clothed Himself in time (i.e., flesh), lived among men and ascended to His Father, thus taking off time to His original state of being (1 Tim. 3:15-16). All men will spend eternity some where one day. Brother Don Walker stated at one time, “At birth, every individual, from that point in time, will spend eternity somewhere!” That is so true and very well stated. Shouldn’t we desire to be in that state of bliss and hear those words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the lord” (Matt. 25:21). Heaven holds our Lord! Let God be true!
