Heifer international Malawi – Director of Programmes Heifer International Malawi is a branch office of Heifer Project International (HPI), a US based non-profit organisation that works with resource-limited individuals, households and communities who desire to improve their lives through multiple community development activities such s agricultural and livestock production, organisational and agribusiness development. Heifer International’s focus over the past 65 yrs has been on sustainable development anchored on its mission ‘to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth’. Heifer International Malawi is expanding its operations in Malawi which has necessitated the availability of various employment opportunities as detailed below: Position Title -Director of Programmes, Duty Station – Lilongwe Reporting to - country Director, Relocation Funds – Not Eligible Travel Required – Minimum 50% annually Function Under the direction of the Country Director the Director of Programmes maintains on behalf of the Country Director, overall responsibility for the project design, implementation and coordination of all the programmes/projects within the Country Office. The Director of Programmes will assist the Country Director in the development and implementation of long range strategic vision which complements global plans of HPI and HPI’s Africa Programmes. Director of Programmes is responsible for supervision and evaluation of Project Managers and the design, implementation, evaluation and analysis of Country Programmes activities. Under the delegation of the Country Director, the Director of Programmes will represent Heifer Malawi in various fora and partnerships. Roles and Responsibilities Strategic Planning – Provide leadership and direction to the process of long, medium, and short term planning of the Country programme portfolio, Programme Development and Fundraising – Lead the proposal development process and ensure compatibility with the priorities and orientation of Heifer Malawi Country Programme, Management of Human Resources and Personnel Development – Provide leadership o project managers and regularly monitor and assess their progress on the job, Financial Management and Budget Control – Manage project budgets in line with donor requirements and ensure Project Managers compliance with contractual regulations and procedures of the donors. Develop systems and process for the country programmes to assure that all programmes are well implemented within budget and time limits, Monitoring, Evaluation and Documentation – Work with the PM&E Manager to develop appropriate systems of monitoring and evaluation to assure that all programmes are of the highest quality, achieve impact and scale, and that the programmes/projects are well documented. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree plus 5 yrs job related experience or more Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree in the fields of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Resource Development, Rural development Administration or other related field or a BS degree and a minimum of 5 yrs relevant experience, Minimum of 3 yrs management level work experience, Minimum of 3 yrs experience in rural development, Most Critical Proficiencies Knowledge of budget preparation and monitoring, Proven team leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to train and work cooperatively with a diverse staff, including field staff in several locations, Skilled with computers as a tool for word processing, database, e-mail, spreadsheets, and organising, Experience with the NGO/PVO approach, and knowledge of global sustainable development essential; international experience and knowledge of hunger organisation desirable Knowledge and, Skills and Abilities Demonstrate ability to use participatory management skills with junior and senior country office and field staff, Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to related to individuals and groups diplomatically and tactfully, Willingness to travel extensively, Demonstrated written and oral fluency in English, Demonstrated ability to work advisory and governing boards Applications All applications should be made online by 30 September by visiting this site below: heifer.org/about-heifer/careers/search-for-a-job/non-us-based-career-careers.html Applications delivered to the Heifer office WILL NOT be considered
