Heita D-Fans! Check out todays episode and start commenting! Previously... Natasha and Nigel werent in agreement about starting a family - at all... “Have you given any thought to what kind of work you want to do now?” asked Claire. She and Stephanie were lying on Stephanie’s bed, cuddling. “I was thinking of applying for the disability grant,” said Steph. Claire propped herself up on one elbow, her chin in her hand. “Really? Don’t you think that’s a little…dishonest?” “No,” said Stephanie firmly. “I think it’s perfectly fine. I was without work for six months, Claire. And the emotional damage was hard-core. I’d feel no qualms taking money from the grant.” “But you’re better now,” observed Claire. “You’ve recovered. Won’t they find out?” “I’ve spoken to the hospital about this. Because my recovery was so radical and unplanned, the medical aids till has me down as ‘in recovery.’ To them, it sounds like I’m still afflicted. SO from their point of view, I’m still disabled.” “I don’t know…it sounds like lying to me,” said Claire, dissatisfied. “Claire, baby,” said Stephanie, stroking Claire’s arm lightly. “I’m just…embellishing the truth. People do it all the time. It makes no difference to them, honestly. Besides, it’ll only be valid for a year or so. After that, the hospital and medical aid board will review my case. What’s the issue with taking money for a while, just while I set myself up again?” “I guess,” said Claire, but she was not completely happy with it. All she could think of was the people with real disabilities applying for the grant, and being denied, while Stephanie got it easily. It didn’t seem fair. Stephanie tickled Claire, in an attempt to dissolve Claire’s sombre expression. Claire giggled. “Stop!” she wailed. Stephanie kissed her on the mouth. “It’s just for now, babe. I’ll only take the disability grant over the next 10 months. Besides, I need to find work still. You don’t want to have a poor girlfriend, do you?” “Hmm,” said Claire, then dissolved into giggles again as Stephanie tickled her under the arms. Meanwhile... Natasha was finished towel drying her hair. She kicked her slippers off and pulled her legs up onto the mattress. She leaned over and pushed two pills out of their foil package. “What’s that babe?” said Nigel, turning a page of his novel. “The pill,” said Natasha, as she washed the pills down with a slug of water. Nigel took off his glasses and looked at her. “The contraceptive pill,” he asked. “Yup,” said Natasha nonchalantly, and picked up a magazine. She wanted to see the best and worst dressed at the Golden Globes. “Didn’t we discuss you were going to go off the pill?” Nigel asked. “No. You discussed it. I just listened.” “Well, don’t you think you can stop now? Taking the pill I mean?” Nigel asked. “Nigel, no. It’s my body. You don’t get to tell me what I can or can’t do with it.” “But I thought we were trying for a baby.” “Exactly,” replied Natasha. “You thought. Remember, sweetie, you didn’t get the ok from me. I’m not ready to have a baby yet, Nigel, and that’s it. When I’m ready, I’ll let you know. Until then, it’s the pill. Sorry, but this isn’t really your decision.” Nigel put down his book and folded his arms. “I don’t like this,” he said. “Natasha, we are not two individuals any more. We are a unit.” “I agree.” “So we need to make decisions as a couple. Right?” “Right. But don’t you see it goes both ways, Nigel? If I am not in favour of something, you have no right to push it on me. “ Nigel exhaled heavily. He tried to remain calm. He thought married life would be easier. Natasha rolled over and straddled his thighs. She looked down at him in a cheeky way. Her long hair tickled his face. He brought his hand up, smoothed her auburn hair out of her face. “What’s the ish, doctor?” she taunted, cheekily. “We get to have all the fun we want, and no consequences,” She kissed his seductively on the lips. “Mmm,” said Nigel, returning the kiss. For the time being, he let his senses respond. Natasha unbuckled her bra. All conversation halted. Nigel flicked off the light. Meanwhile... Annelisa had just been put to bed. Mrs. Vorster was in her room, reading. Annelie and Ethan sat on the couch, watching America’s Next Top Model. The volume was set low so as not to wake the baby. “I’ve been thinking about work,” said Ethan. “Mm-hmmm?” replied Annelie a little absent-mindedly. She was watching one of the models being told off by Tyra Banks. “I wanna go back to school,” admitted Ethan. Annelie was confused for a second. She thought, at first, that Ethan meant school, like high-school. Then she realised that he meant college, or university. “What do you mean?” asked Annelie. Her attention was now fixed squarely on him. One half of a couple going back to study, and leaving the working pool, could have financial consequences. “I’ve realised, when I was in sales - that was never meant to be a full time thing. It was always just meant to be a temporary measure.” “But you did well at it. It was stable. And you earned well.” “I know, I know,” said Ethan, running a hand through his sandy-blonde hair nervously. “But it was always just supposed to be a filler thing – something I did while I figured out what I want to do.” “And what is it you want to do?” asked Annelie, a touch hesitantly, as if nervous of the answer. “I want to learn computer programming.” “Like I.T?” asked Annelie. “Yeah,” said Ethan. “I’ve always been interested in computers and tech stuff.” This Annelie knew. Ethan was an avid fan of technology magazines. “And it’s a solid market – computers aren’t going anywhere. Start-ups also have place for a programmer – it’s the building block of our modern society.” “Mm-hmmm,” said Annelie, thinking it through. It was true. Everything she thought of when she thought of computer programming – website design, online marketing, IT technology – they were all booming industries. “And I’ve always fantasised about designing an App. Just think!” Annelie clicked. She could actually see it. Ethan was very technically minded. He had a special kind of intelligence for gadgets. “I think you’re onto something,” she said. He took her hand. “So you think it’s a good idea?” Annelie paused. Then a smile bloomed on her lips. “If it’s what you want, it’s what I want,” she said. Ethan had never loved her as much as he loved her then. He took her face in her hands and kissed her. Coming Soon Where will Ethan find the money to study, if he goes through with it?
