Hejnova and Bondarenko, by Alfons Juck, EME News TALLINN (EST): The European Athletics Awards Night was a huge success with first ever live broadcast not only in Estonia, but also in Czech Republic, Iceland and Serbia. All countries of the award winners. Zuzana Hejnova from Czech Republic, the 400 m Hurdles world champion and Diamond Race winner with unbeaten record this season got the Women award. Ukrainian high jump miracle of the season Bohdan Bondarenko was the top male athlete of the European continent. He won also World Championships gold and Diamond Race, cleared 241 the best result in this century (since 2000). Serbia’s Emir Bekrić 400 m hurdles Moscow bronze medalist and Iceland’s Anita Hinriksdottir World Youth and European Junior 800 m champion claimed the European Athletics Rising Star Awards. All four athletes were present to collect their prizes in a glittering ceremony at the Seaplane Harbour. More than 16,000 fans voted on the European Athlete of the Year and Rising Star Awards at facebook/EuropeanAthletics, while 163 members of the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS) from 54 countries also voted through aipsmedia. In the top 3 also on men side second Mo Farah and third hammer thrower Pawel Fajdek, on the women side second Yelena Isinbayeva and third Italian marathon runner Valeria Straneo. In the Rising Star category in the men section Adam Gemili and Karsten Warholm of Norway were second and third. In women second Dutch versatile talent Dafne Schippers and third Serbian runner Amela Terzic. All 50 member countries of European Athletics were present in Tallinn. Informs European Athletics.
