Hekari United and Ba FC played out a 1-1 draw yesterday in a match which would have no effect on semifinal qualification. AS Magenta’s win earlier in the day meant that Ba would go into the semifinal as group winners of group C regardless of the result. The Ba defense failed to pick up Tutizamo Tanito who smashed a shot from the left to score in the 37th minute. Tanito however turned villain in the 65th minute after an unnecessary foul on Vakatalesau in the penalty box which saw referee Nawen Hopken point to the spot without hesitation. Avinesh Swamy made no mistake and leveled the match. Ba gave several reserves valuable game time including youth players Samuela Nabenia, who is the brother of Malaki Tiwa, and Saula Waqa. Ba coach Yogendra Dutt was pleased with the way the reserves played. “We have a big squad and wanted to see how our players perform on the big stage,”said Dutt. Hekari coach Jerry Sam believes Ba can go all the way and win the champion’s league. “I know a few of the Ba boys well and if they stick to their game plan then anything is possible,” said Sam. All eyes turn to today’s game between Auckland city FC and Amicale FC.
