Hell hath no fury... SPURNED CONSULTANT SUES DRILON, 2 OTHERS FOR PLUNDER By Manny Pinol In a strange twist of fate, Senate President Franklin Drilon, under whose stewardship investigations into alleged corruption in government have continuously been undertaken, is himself facing plunder charges now before the Ombudsman. And just like Vice President Jejomar Binay who is being implicated in acts of corruption when he was Mayor of Makati by people close to him including his Vice Mayor and alleged bagman Ernesto Mercado, Drilon is also being accused by corruption by a person who also worked for him as consultant. Manuel Mejorada, former Iloilo provincial administrator and consultant to Drilon, alleged that the bidding for the P700-M Iloilo Convention Center and the construction cost of the building was overpriced by about P400-M. What makes the story eerily strange is the fact that the construction company involved in the overpriced construction of Drilons ICC project, Hilmarcs Construction, is the same company which was also involved in the construction of the allegedly overpriced Makati City Hall Bldg. II of Vice President Binay. Binay has labeled the corruption charges against him as politically motivated designed to prevent a poor boy from becoming President and helping the poor. Drilon has described the plunder charges as baseless, malicious, and ridiculous.
