Hello AMAA students, Here is a quick tutorial video on break falls for beginners. Break falls are critical prerequisite training before you learn how to take downs and taken down by your partners. It is also very useful in everyday life accidents on the street, playground and sports. You may never do your forms, kicks or sparring, but I am willing to bet that you will end up use one of these break fall techqnieues to save yourself at least once in your life. It definitely helped my wife, Konnie Kwak from hurting herself badly and possibly loose her pregnancy. 1) Front Fall - Open your arms in triangle shape - Turn your head to right or left to avoid front face collision - Kick your leg out and make triangle base - Do it 1, 2, 3 and slowly speed up to a one motion Function and Purpose - When there is no space to roll forward or back - Redirect falling energy by spreading toward leg - Observe impact with your legs, core and forearms. 2) Back Fall - Ruck your chin down roll back - Hit the ground with your arms apart (45 degree) - Kick your leg high up Function and Purpose - When you can not recover from backward fall - Redirect impact to your spine by back rolling motion - Arms and legs up to create a barrier between you and your opponent. 3) Front Shoulder Roll - Knee down and lunge position - Make triangle with your hands and place it next to your front foot - Ruck your head in (look at your belt) and roll over your shoulder - As you roll, tuck your back leg in too; the whole body needs to curl up like a ball Function and Purpose - The most important break fall - Protect your head and not touch it - Use momentum to get up right away. I hope you enjoyed it and it is our goal to make these tutorial video at least 2 times per month. vimeo/103494064
