Hello Advanced Track!! I hope your summers are all wrapping up well. So if I didn’t get the opportunity to interact with you at any point during Wave Week, my name is Carly. I’m Chelsey’s peer mentoring assistant so I’m going to be posting in here relatively often to not only check in on your projects but also to spread some words/videos of wisdom. Anyhow, here is a Ted video that can give you some insights on how to achieve success with your projects. I strongly recommend that you watch the video to its entirety but here are some key highlights: People don’t buy what you do, they buy WHY you do it. One of the fundamental goals that you should set with your projects is attracting people who believe what you believe. For example, if you’re planning a dance for cancer research, you want to spark interest in people who are also passionate about that cause. The reality is that those people that believe what you believe are going to be your cornerstones and I suggest you to stick with those people. The goal isn’t just to get people on board with your project, you want people whom are dedicated and will work hard. Leaders hold a position of authority but those who LEAD inspire us and we follow them because they motivate us to want to better ourselves. This is why when you guys are mapping out your projects, it’s crucial to focus not only on the what but most importantly, the why because that right there is what is going to give you the ability to inspire others around you or find others who inspire you.
