Hello All, For many of you this is an introduction. I am the Representative-elect over a large portion of West Jordan and the actual proposed site. I will be formally addressing you on Monday, but in the meantime I want to let you know I have been engaged on this issue intimately and assertively since it was first determined WJ made the list. Working closely with Kim Rolfe - Mayor of West Jordan City, we were initially successful in asking the commission to refrain from publicly disclosing the identities of the finalists for a few weeks in order to minimize and prepare for adverse impacts to ongoing and active negotions for development of the land in proximity of the proposed site. This gave us time and opportunity to present strong, principled and documented facts and information, not previously considered, that demonstrate the proposed WJ site is not an appropriate placement. My experience in this process has been that commission members have been very receptive to the information we have provided. I am confident that commission members are dedicated to finding the best solution, both in the interest of the state at large and in the interest of communities this process and decision affects. The overarching concern for the commission is that the final site does not replicate the problems that exist for the current location of the prison. It is clear that locating the prison in WJ does just that (in addition to creating new problems). I look forward to meeting with you on Monday. I stand with you in opposition to locating the prison on the proposed site. I believe the commission process will ultimately determine that WJ is not an appropriate site, and I will continue to represent WJ citizens on this matter.
