Hello Denver. Goodbye Denver, as soon as I walked out of the airport. And where are we now, almost 24 hours later? Swinging Salina, Kansas, USA. >:( Story, though: As we pulled into the parking lot after dark, I thought I recognized the random hotel we chose from about a dozen Siri suggested to us. But its a Quality Inn -- what are the chances, right? I flopped on the bed immediately but Tessa drew the curtains back from the sliding glass doors, where we expected an outdoor pool. Oh wow, its a game room! she said. What was once a courtyard was entirely closed, circa 1965, would be my guess. Kitschy Kansas, adorable really, with the pool and popcorn machine and ancient astroturf and and fake sunken fire pit and stuff like that. A mini wooden covered wagon. Ill be dadgummed if this isnt the same hotel where my ex and I and four daughters stayed in 1999, as we passed through on our big cross-country trip that year.
