Hello Everybody!!! I wanted to give you all another update. I - TopicsExpress

Hello Everybody!!! I wanted to give you all another update. I was hospitalized at Menorah from Mon 3/17 to Fri 3/21 and I can only describe my time there as MISERABLE. Despite that, I did meet a very professional, kind, smart and respected Neurosurgeon who has been speaking with his Surgeon colleagues about what is the best course of action to take for my multi-faceted and complicated case for Cervical Spine Surgery. I was TRANSFERRED to Mid-America Rehabilitation Hospital on 110th Street in Overland Park, KS on Friday evening (3/21) to try to 1) get my pain better controlled, 2) try to do some pre-surgical rehab and 3) try to get rid of my infections. I have been fighting these infections for 5 years now and have NOT been able to get rid of them. My immune system is so screwed up! I was so nervous about going to the Rehab Hospital initially because my pain was no where near being controlled at the hospital and I was concerned that it would be a continuation of treatment from the hospital. I was seriously at the end of my rope with pain and considered going home but I prayed about it and decided to give it a try and I am SO GLAD that I did come here. They currently have me approved for another 10 days but I am not sure what the surgeon has decided about doing the surgery. My Infectious Disease Dr and Wound Care Dr has signed off on me having the surgery because I have been going even further downhill with symptoms since going into the hospital and having fallen IN THE HOSPITAL -they have continued to stress the possibility and risk of any falls or even a small fender bender causing me to be paralyzed from the neck down. :( On Wednesday, the nurse would not listen to me about ANY type of liquids touching my raw wounds causing extreme pain. She put gauze soaked with saline all around the wounds on my left leg and it literally still feels like ACID on my leg. The next morning, the foot Dr came to see if he could do anything with the horrible pain in my very ingrown big toe nails and ended up cutting at least a third of my big toe nails off without any anesthesia while the idiot Hospitalist had cut my medicine for pain down to 1/4 of my HOME dose of meds!!! With all of the additional issues I have had, going that route with my pain was absolutely careless and in my opinion, those of my family, and some of my physicians - abusive. There are still a number of questions that I need answered - such as whether it should be done from the front or the back of the neck, should 5 levels be done at one time through the back of the neck (dorsal) or should only the worst of them be done first (from the front) that is impinging on the spinal cord and severely affected by stenosis and other issues the first surgery and then have to go through multiple surgeries. Neither of them are great options with my RSD/CRPS and the infections but losing the capability to be able to care for myself is not cool either as I am already having multiple issues related to care. I also wanted to let you know that my husband, Rick, is not doing well either. He is having so much pain that it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to even walk now. I feel so bad for him having to deal with all of his pain issues and have been trying to convince him to just take care of himself!!! It is an extremely trying time for our family right now but as I always have said, One Day at a Time. My direct number is now (913) 553-6014 and I am in Room 214-B. I really hope to hear from some of you if you get any time., Going through all of these issues has been exceedingly difficult and in fact, at times, very overwhelming. I sure do miss everybody!!! One note of positivity - they said my dogs can come up here to visit on the first floor if I can get my guys in good enough shape to bring them up here for a visit. I hope those of you who went to the Support Group Meeting on 3/18 enjoyed Dr. Jim Lemons talk. I have heard that it was really great. :) Darn, I sure hated to miss that!!! :( Love and Hugs to you all!
