Hello Everyone, I usually wait until later to post but I just had an experience with Fernando that I just had to share. As you know he has a significant brain injury and the prognosis is uncertain at this time. Several times a day, the staff (or I get to) does a neurological test where Fernando gets stimulated to wake up a bit and he is asked to do simple tasks like squeezing each hand and wiggling his toes one foot at a time. The nurse asked me to give it a go, so I called his name and he opened his eyes, then I asked if he could look at me and he then turned his eyes toward my voice. I asked to to squeeze my hand and he did. I then asked to wiggle his toes, he did one foot then the other............THEN... I asked if he could give me a "thumbs up" and he did!!!! This was a first that he followed all commands!!!! I am so excited!!! The plan for tomorrow is for him to finally take a trip to the OR to at least have his clavicle fixed. Hopefully in a day or two we can move toward removing him from the ventilator. ( I am hoping) His children have been here everyday since Saturday as well, so I know that he is aware and overjoyed that they are by his side. Ok, I need to give him a big smooch and tell him how great he is doing! Till tomorrow! Xo Lauren
