Hello FnF Racers Night of Fun! recap The track was ready, “the voice of FnF Racing” Hal Sanguinetti was in the tower, the temperature was high and the diehard FnF racers and their new found friends were ready for some fun, and fun is just what they got. You may remember Dave Van Winkle in his beautiful Mustang from our last race at SIR, Dave took runner up honors in the Consy at that race. Once again Dave would find himself in the final of the Consy, against FnF regular Danny Kortenber. Danny would leave the starting line with the Holeshot advantage but Dave’s hard charging Mustang would drive around Danny’s Camaro right at the strip. How about a (.004) margin of victory. Wow, and we weren’t done yet. The final of our 660 SHOOT-OUT would see another newcomer to FnF, Paul Polito in his Vega take on series regular John Nahodil, and another margin of victory of only (.005) Paul took the starting line advantage and started chasing down John’s Mustang. John would cross the finish line first but the Mustang would break out by just (.004) Now to our ALL-STAR race highlights. On one side of the ladder we would see what is becoming an FnF regular event. The bright yellow Camaro of Sherri Nahodil against the hard charging Camaro of Dan Olszewski. Yes once again! This is becoming an event in itself as these two drivers find themselves racing each other more than any other drivers in the FnF Series. This time Dan would pop the BIG RED BULB by just (.008) giving Sherri the win and leaving her with no small task in the second round, the number one qualifier, her husband John. Try as he might he could only get a (.011) starting line advantage over Sherri, as she was ready for the challenge. John would break out by a ton trying to hold off Sherri’s screaming Camaro with his Mustang, moving Sherri to the semi final round. There she would face the one driver that had everything going his way, Adrian Felix. Adrian was supposed to face our reigning Champion Tim Hinton in first round but Tim was unable to make the race due to other obligations. Adrian took the competition single only to find out that there was something very, very wrong with his 2001 Firebird, but as fate would have it the ladder would give Adrian a bye run in the second round, moving him to the Semi against Sherri. Adrian would again be blessed by the racing gods when Sherri would go red, moving him and his broken Firebird to the biggest final of his career. On the other side of the ladder we had Donald Phelps, the fan vote winner against Chuck Lewis first round. Don would take a starting line advantage all the way to the win, moving him to the second round against the racer who had the best pass of the night in a first round win, Bill Bolick in his Corvette. Think about this, Bill had a .016 light combined that with running his number with a 1. Yes that’s a .017 package. Don would get the starting line advantage and hold off Bill’s hard charging Corvette to move him to the semi where he had the bye run into the final. The stage was set for an all Pontiac FnF ALL-STAR final. When the final lane call was made, Adrian was not there. At most racing events the racer would have just taken the competition single, but not Don Phelps. Don told the race director that he would wait until Adrian was ready. Keep in mind that this was the biggest race of their careers. Man I have to tell you, that’s what makes FnF so great, racers like these two. Wow, Don would not run until Adrian was ready for the final. The numbers in the final don’t mean anything at this point. Adrian staged his broken Firebird and it just wasn’t up to the challenge. Congratulations to Donald Phelps for his 2013 ALL-STAR win and to the latest members of the FnF family, Paul Polito for his win in our annual 660 SHOOT-OUT and Dave Van Winkle in our Consolation race. Thanks to the hard working crew of SIR, from the tower to the ticket booth and everyone in between for another great night of racing.
