Hello Folks. Among the items on the BOS agenda for this evening - TopicsExpress

Hello Folks. Among the items on the BOS agenda for this evening is the “FARMINGTON CHILDREN’S CENTER”. I haven’t been following this closely but from what I gather, tonight they are to decide whether or not to Renew the lease and for how long. I understand that converting the center into a public safety building is Part of the discussion. My personal opinion: The 20 year lease has or is about to expire. Another long Term lease will afford them (FCC) the opportunity to apply for grants to effect necessary repairs to the Building. A short term lease will seriously limit their options and impact any long range stability. To convert the existing building in a public safety building would be costly and again we’ll have a Functional but make shift arrangement for our public safety people. It would be more advantageous for The community, in the long run, to start from scratch in the public safety arena. The now disestablished Public Safety Action Committee considered the possibility of converting the center into a public safety Building but decided it would not be practical or dollar wise. Side note: The Public Safety Action Committee - for the better part of a year - evaluated just about every conceivable option and location for A new building to house our Police, Fire, and Emergency personnel and equipment. They did an awesome Job. Unfortunately, the BOS decided to shelf the project. In any case, I believe a long term lease - say Another 20 years - would best serve the community. The Farmington Children’s Center HAS NOT been A burden to the town, it has been an asset. It will continue to be an asset, lend itself to economic Development, and contribute to the welfare of our community. To terminate their operation, cause them to Relocate, or offer only a short term lease, I think, would not be good for the character of this town, would Not do much for economic development, would destabilize a significant portion of our town, and directly Impact over eighty (80) Farmington families. Just my opinion. Suggest you attend tonight’s meeting and Offer yours.
