Hello Grizzly Families and Mentors, I know you are all - TopicsExpress

Hello Grizzly Families and Mentors, I know you are all anticipating Family/Mentor Day coming up on Saturday, September 13th from 1000 to 1600. Your cadets have been working hard preparing for your much anticipated arrival. Family Day is a wonderful day filled with lots of fun activities for all your family to enjoy. It is also our largest fundraiser. Money we receive goes back to the cadets in scholarships for college, and special activities for the cadets. We have a Silent Auction that I wanted to spend a few minutes talking about. This is how it works.....any Grizzly Families/Mentors that want to donate a basket on Family Day; we sell that day by doing a silent auction. Usually we have over 250 baskets that people are generous enough to donate. We ask that the baskets are themed and labeled on the outside stating what is in the basket. Then we ask to have the total price of what the basket costs put on the basket. Theme examples are: movie night, handyman basket, electronic basket, perfume basket, pampering basket, office supplies basket, crafts basket, kids play basket, wine baskets, cooking basket, baking basket, games basket, organic fruits and vegetable basket, gourmet spices basket, gourmet sauces basket, candy basket, gourmet snacks basket, cosmetic baskets, toiletry basket, raider (or any team) basket, candle basket, tools basket, cheese baskets, coffee basket, gourmet tea basket, coffee cups basket, etc. We also sell items that are donated in our Everything Else Table. Items like: bbqs, quilts, jewelry, electronics, tools, children toys, crafts, vacation packages, golf packages, salon packages, spa day packages, wine tasting packages, limo ride with wine tasting package, bicycles, game tickets (like football, baseball, hockey), power tools, hand craft items (crochet, knit, etc), kitchen ware, electronics, etc. We will have raffle tickets for sell also for a 50/50 raffle with gift for the winner. You will see volunteers going around to sell tickets throughout the day. We have a dollar table with kid’s toys, games, and crafts for sell in the silent auction room for the little ones to buy to entertain them throughout the day. If you have any questions about the silent auction area, everything else table, 50/50 raffle or dollar table please call or email Mrs. Hosey at: 805.574.0415 / [email protected] An email with the tax donation letter for organizations donating can be emailed to you. We have a Food Court where we receive donations of baked goods, food we can bbq or sell, water, soda, snacks and candy. Food Court donation are always welcome. If you know anyone who would like to donate, these are some of the items we are looking for: frozen hamburger hot dogs and condiments, mustards, ketchup and relish squeeze bottles, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, chili beans, chips (box of 50). Various fruit and vegetables like: grapes, oranges, watermelons, corn or Corn on the Cob for our BBQ, artichokes. Other items like: coffee and flavor creamer, candy, cookies, and cakes. Please call or email SFC Castillo if you have any food donations. 805- 574-0413 / [email protected] •1st and 2nd platoon’s families should each bring one case of soda. •3rd and 4th platoon should bring a case of water for this event and the rest will go to field trips and socials. We have a Kids Corner where we have a couple bounce houses, face painting and games for young children. We accept kid’s toys that we can give away to the young children that play there throughout the day. Donations can be dollar store items like kid’s toys, games, craft items, coloring books, crayons, face painting tools/materials, and self tattoo stickers. If anyone is willing to build a dunk tank and donate to the academy we are in need of one. We are looking to see if someone would be able to donate an Ice Shaver Machine for Icy cones. Our long time volunteer, Monica Jimenez, who has donated countless hours at family day, is retiring. We are in need of someone to run a face painting booth for the little ones. They really enjoy this booth. Thank you Monica Jimenez for all that you have done to help Grizzly throughout the years!!!! If you want to volunteer for face painting or have questions about items to donate in the Kid’s Corner please call or email SGT Atchison at: 805.574.0419 / [email protected] We have a GYA sales section (next to the food court) where we sale; clothing, platoon posters, platoon pictures, carrying bags, hats, and buttons. We have a yearbook and pictures ordering booth (next to the GYA sales section) where you can order these ahead of time for your cadet. We take cash, checks, and credit cards. There is also a debit machine on post next to the PX. We accept money donations of any kind. We will give you a tax deduction receipt for your taxes when you give your donation. This receipt will be given to you if you donate a basket or item as well. Most importantly, make sure to come prepared to have a fantastic day with your cadet. Each platoon is busily preparing to show their marching skills to their families. They are getting their uniforms all pressed and their boots polished. They are SO excited to see you they can hardly stand it. Make it a fun day and enjoy each other’s company. We are excited to have you come see your cadet’s progress in their journey to success. Lastly, Make sure to bring extra clothing in case it is cold on this day. Feel free to pack chairs, canopies, tarps, blankets, ice chests full of your favorite foods, or anything that makes you feel comfortable. We have a seating area setup with shade, tables, and chairs available on a first come first serve basis. The tables and chairs cannot be moved to other locations. Also, remember we sell food so if you dont want to cook we have food very reasonably priced for sell at our food court. We look forward to seeing you on family day. Your cadets counselor will be reaching out to you via email or by phone to confirm your attendance. Respectfully, Grizzly Youth Academy 1.800.926.0643
