Hello! Having children is like living in a frat house - no one - TopicsExpress

Hello! Having children is like living in a frat house - no one sleeps, everythings broken and there is a lot of throwing up. Ray Romano I read this today and it made me laugh remembering what it was like when my children were little. Since I have never lived in a frat house, although I have visited one or two, I had never made the connection but he sure got it right! When my children were young, sleep was a rare commodity. I just kept telling myself over and over, smart children sleep less, smart children sleep less. I have no idea if this is really true but it kept me going through the first 3 years of their lives. :) There were toys all over the house: barbies with no clothes on and hair that looks like mine when I first get up, dump trucks without wheels, puzzles missing pieces and little lego pieces smashed to smithereens ( usually by me in the middle of the night as I was getting up to be with one of the children!). And dont get me started on throw-up. I dont do throw-up. I told all of my children that they were not allowed to throw-up unless Daddy was home. They listened - most of the time... The point of all of this is that when you are raising children you cannot and should not have a perfect house. Real people, real children, live there, eat there, sleep there, play there, work there. If you try and have a perfect house you will be cleaning or straightening up all day and most of the night. And believe me it is not worth it! The only person who really cares what your house looks like is you - ok and maybe your mother. Your friends will all understand and even look up to you because you are so self assured that you know you are not defined by the cleanliness of your house. I am not suggesting that you live in a pig sty, but a toys out, messes around, laundry not done are all part of normal household. Since I was indoctrinated into having a clean house my compromise was that about an hour before bedtime we had clean up time....
