Hello, I was looking for some advice. My german shepherd has recently been acting up. He has been very protective/territorial when we take him out of our apartment to go to the bathroom. He barks at the strangers who walk past us in our complex. Today, when someone came out of their apartment, my dog began barking. I scolded him and made him sit as our past trainer told us to do, except this time when the man walked by and stuck his hand out to pet him, my dog put the strangers hand in his mouth. I dont think he was lunging to bite because if that were his intention he definitely could have and would have bitten down hard and grabbed the mans hand. In any case obviously this is not ok and I dont understand why this has started up? It seems to have begun when my husband left for training in the army for a month. My dog got very protective of me when I was alone for that whole month and it seems now that even though my husband is home the behavior hasnt stopped. Any advice on how to stop this from happening and breaking this habit??
