Hello! Looking for experienced Upright Bass, Woodwind and Trombone pit orchestra musicians for La Cage Aux Folles at the Center for Performing Arts in Rhinebeck! Paid. DM me for details. La Cage aux Folles opens February 27 and continues through March 22, 2015. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM. Heres the schpeal, and Id love to know if youre available / interested.... The show is La Cage Aux Folles (the musical that the movie The Birdcage is based on) and Kevin Archambault is directing. Here’s the thing…. if you know the show at all, half of it takes place in a drag nightclub, and the director would love for the pit to actually be part of this show… in drag. If you are up for this additional challenge (yippee), it could be VERY silly and fun. Band will have three dress rehearsals in tech week, and due to the fact we will be in costumes, we will have one-two costume-less rehearsal probably the week before, depending on schedules. About the show: Georges and his lover Albin, who stars as Zaza at their drag nightclub, “La Cage aux Folles,” have lived happily together for many years. Albin is the club’s star female impersonator; Georges is the club’s Master of Ceremonies. Problems arise when Georges’ 25 year old son, Jean-Michel, a result from a brief encounter years back, announces that he is engaged to Anne Dindon, the daughter of a well-known homophobic politician. Anne’s parents come to meet Jean-Michel’s mother and father. Little do they know that Albin, a man, has essentially been Jean-Michel’s mother figure his whole life. Jean-Michel wants to keep Albin away from the Dindons but Albin is hurt and insists on making an appearance. In the end, due to a little blackmail, the Dindons are forced to accept Jean-Michel into their family. The movie “The Birdcage” starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, was based on the movie “La Cage.” The original 1983 Broadway production won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.
