Hello Parents and Guardians! The PSAT will be given on 16 - TopicsExpress

Hello Parents and Guardians! The PSAT will be given on 16 October 2013. More information about the specific time will be forthcoming. ALL sophomores (10th) and juniors (11th) will automatically take this assessment. DoDEA pays for all 10th and 11th grade students to take the assessment, therefore there is no cost to our 10th and 11th graders. Please peruse the attached The Parent Perspective, Benefits of the PSAT/NMSQT and Increasing AP Course Achievement; handouts about the PSAT prepared especially for parents by Collegeboard. If your student is a sophomore or junior, they will have classroom guidance sessions about the PSAT and its importance in the coming weeks, conducted by the School Counseling Department. We will go over pertinent facts about the PSAT. They will receive a booklet with a practice PSAT inside, as well as other useful information. Please go over the information with your child. Please reiterate to your child the importance of taking this assessment seriously. If they do, the end result is an invaluable tool that will help prepare them to do their best on the SAT college entrance exam. The report they receive after taking the assessment will not only tell them what they got wrong, but it will also tell them why their answer is wrong, why the correct answer is the best answer and provide them with customized ways in which they can improve their scores based on their responses on the assessment. We will conduct classroom guidance sessions to help students analyze their results once they are scored and returned. 11th grade students could qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program by scoring well on the PSAT. The National Merit Scholarship Program, conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships. For more information, check out the attached parent information and collegeboard. In the coming weeks we will be posting testing room assignments. Please remind your child to check the lists in the main lobby or the lists outside of the School Counseling office to see where they are to report on PSAT testing day. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the School Counseling Department. You may also read more about the PSAT at collegeboard.org. 9th Graders Wishing to Take the PSAT Freshmen (9th) may take the assessment, HOWEVER; there is a cost of $16.00 per freshman and it is on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis. Slots for freshmen wanting to take the PSAT will be very limited. More information about 9th grade sign up will be forthcoming closer to testing time. Have a super week! Sincerely, SAHS School Counseling Department
