Hello Team Team. My apologies for keeping you waiting this long, zvinombowanda sometimes. But let me try and solve this Tuku riddle quickly. It is just a light hearted story that obviously became bigger than what it should be simply because it involves 2 celebrities. Actually my brother Mr Oliver Mtukudzi Oh..did I just call him my brother..lol and myself laugh about it whenever we meet. I confirm that the old rumour that General Eric Knight is one of the most popular LIES ever to grace Zimbabwe. Here is how it started: In one edition of the countrys most popular TV programme Ezomgido/Mutinhimira that I co-presented with John Mzala Phiri at ZBCTV, I interviewed Tuku for the first time ever after he had released a video called Chirimupoto. As we sat for a pre-interview discussion, a cameraman said Wow, you guys look alike. Then Tuku jokingly retorted No, hatina kufanana, Eric akafanana ega and ini ndakafanana ndega. I then added to say Its Oliver who maybe looks like me, I dont look like him. The TV Crew burst into laughter and then someone said said to solve it, from today you are Eric Mtukudzi mukoma Tuku you are Oliver Knight. It was pure studio banter. Its obvious what happened in the studio somehow got to the ghetto as most guys who worked at ZTV also live muvanhu.That was that. For some reason the rumour re-surfaced when I went to England in 2002. I would receive lots of light hearted enquiries from fans and usually I would joke to say no, its the other way around Tuku is my son,just to show them it how impossible the rumour would be. When Tuku released a song Hazvireve Rudo Handina Mwanangu expert story tellers cleverly associated the song to the rumour..lol. A friend of mine Mduduzi Mathuthu, yes the Weevil (Chipfukuto)..lol, Please dont you dare call him that! who is now Editor of the The Chronicle in Byo called me a few years later to try and get into the issue as he wanted to run it his online news site NewZimbabwe. I tried to explain but alas! When he wrote the story it actually had opposite effect to the rumour, it rather confounded it and hence the rumour went viral up to today. Stopping people from gossiping is like stopping people from breathing. It is just one of those rumours that even some other dodgy news sites heavily benefitted from, after fishing the story from Mduduzis publication. I never knew Tuku personally and he never knew me until I became a Broadcaster. My whole family and Tukus family know very well about it and its just a laughing matter. My mum, having been born and bred in Matebeleland, never knew Tuku except his music, in fact she is too old for him that she can call Tuku her son..lol. I call Tuku mukoma and he says muninina, Tukus wife Daisy is my amaiguru and we are the greatest of family friends such that they have even invited my family for a dinner we will never forget at their beautiful mansion in Norton. Now about my dad. On the 27th of July 1998 I lost my father Mr Lazarus Saruff Knight. He succumbed to a long illness and we laid him to rest at the Warren Hills Cemetery.He was seen off by an incredible number of people which included Cabinet Ministers,musicians and I was shocked up to now by how popular the man is. By the way I belatedly thank the ZBC for taking care of the burial including the provision of vehicles and buses for use on the day. Razaro, as he was popularly known amongst his friends and our relatives was a jovial, but very cunning man. At his time of death, I am not ashamed to say that my parents had divorced. I asked mum what happened and she told me its because Razaro wanted to marry a second wife and mum would have none of it. Im told he said he was doing that because he wanted to start some businesses and there would be a lot of work ahead therefore he wanted someone to assist my mum since he loved her so much he didnt want her overworked..kkk. I said to mum you should have stayed on the man loved you!.. and mum said Ah kwaani ko? Haumuzive mushe mudhara wako. He was so cunning, let me share with you some funny side of Mr Knight as mum told me. He was from Mashonaland, kwa Musana near Bindura, vana Chiweshe ndivo vana Sekuru vedu by the way. When he fell in love with mum he wanted to marry but Mums parents didnt want her married to someone from Mashonas (You know this tribal problem of AmaShona ne Mandevere intermarrying was there big time.)Mum is from Filabusi in Mat South, ko Godlwayo omnyama U Mahlaba ayithwale where I partly grew up. So Mr Knight connived with his munyai/Idombo in ndebele and they tricked their way into getting mama by introducing himself as Mr Ndlovu from Tsholotsho..kkk. So up to now mum sometimes calls me Ndlovu kkk. When my grandparents discovered it, it was too late! By the way I am the last born from my mum, Frank Louis Knight, an ex War vet is the 1st born now based in London, then Rita Knight Ritzau is in Denmark, Naddie Knight Mbeulani in London,my late brother Hilton Knight who went to be with the Lord at a very tender age and then me lastly. My dad re-married and my brother Dereck Knight,my sister Maureen Knight Makomva,Owen Knight and Ayisha Knight Chitakunye were born. Note that all my sisters have double barrel surnames...kkk they refuse to drop the royal surname! My dad also had other children from previous relationships, dont ask me ndirimwana ini ngingumntawana mina..lol. They are Loveness Knight, Goodwin Masimba Knight,Bednock Knight, Norman Knight, Dugmore Knight and Abigail Knight Mahaso. I love all my brothers and sisters. We are so unified you cant tell we are from different mothers. So you see folks, we are a very big family if you mess around with the General tinokurovai mukafa! If you talk to me nicely,Mukandinyengetedza mushe/Lingangincenga kahle I will publish the photos of my Dad for the first time ever kkk. I have already showed you my mums photos right.So anything else you hear or you read which is different from the above, know that its a Lie from the pit of hell!. As I said before the internet is good, but unfortunately is has also become a conduit for perpetrating lies. I sometimes wonder if there is another Eric Knight somewhere.Anything that I didnt say on this page,on Radio dismiss it.I dont talk to newspapers and I dont go to music shows except if I have a role to play there. Some of my friends are always bashing me about that. Mathanda Ncube , one of my great friends will testify that I am an introvert and that is why perhaps I am so susceptible to gossip. Maybe he is right. He used to say it is a weakness for for someone in my career but I love being indoors. Some of the lies I read about me are terrible but I promise you I am not moved. By the way more of my life you will not just learn from this page, but you will learn from my book that I have written and still weighing out options on where, when and how to have it published once the Lord gives me the green light.
